We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
We just came out of our tryptophan coma to put together a few insights from sources reporting on 2014's Black Friday and Cyber Monday that we thought you may find interesting:
1) CNN reported that 5.1 million fewer people were out shopping on Black Friday than last year. That was a decline of about 7%. Find out more here.
2) Everlane had a heartwarming "promotion" for Black Friday, donating all profits toward improving the lives of workers at their silk factory. The goal was to raise $30,000 and they raised more than $113,000. Find out more about Everlane's Black Friday Fund here.
3) Custora shined a light on Black Friday over the weekend, showing us that Black Friday 2014 e-commerce revenue is up 20.6% over Black Friday 2013, combined with order growth of 17.8% over Black Friday 2013. Read here for more.
4) Apparently there's this new thing called "Cyber Week" and it caused Cyber Monday sales to not be as great as anticipated (but they were still pretty great). Since retailers offered a fair amount of online deals leading up to Thanksgiving, people must have already done their shopping prior to passing the gravy. However, sales from smartphones and tablets rose 27.2% on Cyber Monday this year versus the same day in 2013, showing us that mcommerce isn't going away anytime soon.
