Supporting the Next Generation of Skilled Operators
The Operating Engineers Training Center needed a modern website that could better serve apprentices, journeymen, instructors, and industry partners while making critical training resources easier to access and manage.
For decades, the Operating Engineers Training Center (OETC) has helped prepare skilled operators for careers in construction, infrastructure, and heavy equipment industries. The organization's website serves as an important resource hub, providing access to apprenticeship information, class schedules, policies, forms, reimbursement programs, and training materials.
As content continued to grow and user expectations evolved, OETC needed a platform that was easier to navigate, simpler to maintain, and better aligned with the quality of its training programs.
Project Goals
The primary goal of the redesign was to improve access to information. Apprentices and journeymen often visit the website looking for specific resources, schedules, or program requirements. The new website needed to help users find those materials quickly while reducing confusion and unnecessary clicks.
The project also focused on creating a more professional digital presence that reflects OETC's reputation as a trusted training provider while giving staff greater control over website updates and content management.
Organizing Critical Training Resources
A significant portion of the project centered around information architecture and content organization. Over time, the website had accumulated a large collection of documents, forms, schedules, and reference materials that were essential to users but increasingly difficult to locate.
Cascade worked closely with OETC to reorganize these resources into a more intuitive structure, helping visitors quickly navigate between apprenticeship information, training requirements, reimbursement programs, policies, and educational materials.
The result is a cleaner experience that allows users to spend less time searching and more time accessing the information they need.
Built for Today's Workforce
The redesigned website was built with a mobile-first mindset, recognizing that many users access training information from job sites, classrooms, and while on the go. Responsive layouts, simplified navigation, and improved accessibility standards help ensure information remains easy to access regardless of device.
The new design balances professionalism with usability, creating a modern experience that reflects the organization's role in developing the next generation of skilled operators.
Powered by Evergreen CMS
Behind the scenes, the website was rebuilt in Evergreen CMS, providing OETC staff with a flexible platform that makes content updates significantly easier. New resources, schedules, announcements, and program information can now be managed without relying on developer assistance for routine updates.
The modular structure also provides a foundation for future growth, allowing the organization to expand content and services as training programs evolve.
The Result
The new OETC website serves as a centralized resource hub for apprentices, journeymen, instructors, and industry partners. By improving navigation, organizing critical information, and providing a more flexible content management experience, the site helps support the organization's mission of developing a skilled and capable workforce.
