Its no secret. One my favorite pastimes is playing in the snow covered mountains; with skiing being at the tip top of that list. The challenges, beauty and soul cleansing connection to our natural world enriches my life in many ways. Sharing these experiences with friends and family makes the experiences even more powerful and memorable.
So, after sending members of the cascade team to the snowsport and outdoor trade shows the last several years, it was high time I got to work in this fertile and fun environment. The Snowsports Industry Association (SIA) trade show in Denver is the marquee annual event where manufacturers, retailers, athletes, personalities, and those that support the industry congregate to market, sell, network, and celebrate. This inaugural experience for me did not disappoint.
I had a blast meeting with many of cascade's longest standing client contacts and partners, several for the first time, face to face. We explored new challenges and opportunities while catching up and learning about all the new products they have to debut next season. This was a huge highlight for the inner gear-head.
I caught up with old friends that have gone on to find work as custom ski builders (Ryan Prentice, Folsom Skis) and national brand managers (Zach Carlson, APO Skis). Even ran into ex-Mt Hood grom turned X-Games gold medalist, Sammy Carlson.
I had an opportunity to present at a session with client, Nordica, and partner, Shopatron. It was exciting to shine the light on our collective efforts with a group of others seeking insight on the ever changing world of digital strategy and execution.
Finally, I had a chance to meet and see many of the world's best athletes - past and present. The fanboy within enjoyed the heck out of this opportunity and I look forward to making this and other trade events part of my annual schedule. It was profound reminder that even with all the immersive technology at our fingertips, you really cannot replace direct interaction with people and places.
