5/7/2009RSS Finally Catching ONWhen RSS first launched, some said it was going to replace e-mail. The technology took hold in niche markets on the back end of web applications, but no mainstream user knew what it really did. The chances of replacing e-mail were slim. Then social media really took off. The little orange RSS icon started showing up on popular social media sites YouTube, Twitter and Google Apps. Finally people started to get it: "this is a tool that will make my life easier, not scarier." How we have applied RSS in our business applications: - We use RSS to transfer content from our CMS Evergreen into flash (See Example)
- An RSS reader is used on Whitepass intranets creating a dashboard home page
- RSS is a marketing tool, we use it to publish content to our social media outlets (Read Blog post)
- RSS connects multiple business unit websites within a company. We used it for AKT (5 websites, 1 intranet)
- RSS allows us to monitor news and mentions of our company name in Google and Twitter
